The RPG editor RPG Next Gen is based on the Eclipse Platform (Eclipse RCP 1) ) and tries to integrate as much into Eclipse and use as much of the already existing standard Eclipse views and features as possible.
Because of this it helps a lot to know how the Eclipse Workbench works. The Eclipse documentation has an excellent beginners guide of the workbench.
